Image by Todd Berman
00, collaborative, acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 30" x 36", 2007 ::

As a substitute teacher working with the San Francisco Unified School District (request #14927), I often take the opportunity to engage the students in some collaborative art projects. ::

This painting represents several classes at Galileo Academy for Art and Technology working on some free form exquisite corpse style stories and drawings. Many of the students’ writings and drawings have been collaged into this painting.

Are theyre any other cool tricks i can do with my d5000 besides light painting?

i already know what light painting is and know how to do it, i was wondering if there are any other fun dslr tricks i dont know off, that are abstract or near abstract like light painting? not something like bluring background against forground, something more intrestingt than that. Thankss

In addition to light painting you can try light trails. Pretty similar to the light painting but you capture the trails of headlights and taillights. You can also do this with star trails.

Have you tried using a long shutter speed and zooming during the exposure? You will probably need a tripod and you have to be very careful while zooming not to move the camera but it is a very neat effect.

You could also try panning. Again you use a long shutter speed and you pan the camera with your subject which keeps them pretty sharp but the background becomes a blur.

You can also use a long shutter speed to create ghostly like images. If you, or someone else, step into the frame partway through the exposure you will appear a little transparent.
