My Art Studio

Like many other flickr folk, I am an artist *and* a photographer. I have a small studio space in the garage of our home and I get out there two hours or so daily. I like drawing, painting, collage and printmaking. Lately I’ve been experimenting with crayon etchings. Right now I’m finishing up a couple of monotype/chine collé pieces and I’m researching encaustic painting.
Art is a lot of fun.
Beautiful Truck Art

Image by NotMicroButSoft (Back in town)
Truck Painting Art is an indigenous form of art performed in Pakistan. With its all colorful floral patterns, imaginative creatures, depiction of human heroes with creative aspect ratios, calligraphy of poetic verses and driver’s words of wisdom, this form of art is truly a part of Pakistani transport tradition.
PPA organized a photowalk on 6 Nov 10, to capture this very indigenous art being performed at the workshops along Pir Wadahi Road, Rawalpindi.
In the above picture, A peacock is made on the body of truck. Look at the symmetry, and details in the image.

Is it just me or do other artists prefer painting on bristol paper rather than canvas board?
I don’t know, I hate canvas board, you can draw on it. And you have to put so much paint so the white doesnt show. I like acrylic on bristol paper. I usually dont mess up as often.

I usually just leave areas on a canvas intended to be white, alone.
Paper likes to shread easily, and it leaves bits and pieces all over your work, and it also ruins the medium. Canvas doesn’t do that for me, and so I personally prefer canvas, plus it’s thick and I don’t have to worry about it becoming damaged when being moved around.

john singer sargent: a dinner table at night

Sargent. Oil painting. 1884. 20×26 inches.
A good example of how from a distance things look really good and in order, but up close you can clearly see very broad and simplistic brushstrokes. I encourage you to view original size, you won’t be disappointed…especially if you’re a painter wishing to learn an artist’s methods and style. Sargent was a master of getting across his visual method with graceful simplicity. Very large resolution.
Sargent lived from 1856 to 1925.
